TechCavalry is riding to the aid of clients in Cambridge.
The Northampton-based computer-repair and service firm has expanded to eastern Massachusetts, hiring two technicians in that area. The company said the move is part of a plan to expand in the region.
TechCavalry, which provides on-site and in-home computer repair service, has worked in Western Massachusetts since it was started in 2001. Jef C. Sharp, president, said the firm took a call from a Cambridge man requesting computer assistance and decided to send a technician as a favor. "He said 'You should come out here more, I have a lot of friends,'" Sharp said.
Three weeks ago, the firm began to offer service throughout the Boston, Cambridge and surrounding areas. There is no office there, but two technicians make the rounds.
The company sends representatives to homes and businesses to install, repair and upgrade computers and related equipment. It recently gained attention for taking chocolate-chip cookies to clients.
Business has been growing slightly, despite economic problems in the state, Sharp said. Business customers are outnumbering individual clients, he said.
"It is our first leap into a new territory altogether," Sharp said.
The company has been advertising and spreading the word in other ways. "We're very happy with the results so far," Sharp said.
